Sunday morning we woke up early, made/ate breakfast and then headed up to the parkway. The parkway is absolutely beautiful this time of year due to peak leaf changing season. We had planned to drive up north on the parkway to Craggy Gardens and hike to Douglas Falls. Sunday it had warmed up quite a bit so without thinking I left the house in a t-shirt and workout capris . Keep in mind we were heading pretty high up in elevation for our hike so once we got there it was about 54 degrees and SO windy that I could barely stand it. We went into the visitor center just to clarify where to start our hike and found out it was an 8 mile hike down to the waterfall, bad planning on our part. Another mistake we made was not checking on how much gas was in the car when we left so as soon as we got back in the car the gas light was on. All I could think of was getting stuck on the parkway in a spot with no where to pull off and waiting forever for triple A. Thank goodness we were heading downhill because I don't think we would have made it otherwise. Luckily we made it to Weaverville and got gas and then headed home. Although plans didn't go the way we had planned it was still a nice morning to be out enjoying the weather.
