Last night after cleaning up from dinner I asked Michael if he wanted to go outside and set up a fire in our fire pit because it was the perfect cool night. I was so glad he said yes. Recently they have cut down a bunch of trees at our apartment so there was plenty of wood to go around, so we gathered some up and got a fire going. Once the fire really got started we sat down and just enjoyed the simplicity of the moment, we didn't have our phones out and we didn't really say much and it made me realize that I need to take more time to enjoy those moments.
We live in a world driven by technology and always being on the go and sometimes I think we forget to really stop and take in moments. It's all about capturing the moment on film rather than enjoy it not through a lens. Don't get me wrong I am totally guilty of this so I'm definitely speaking to myself. I don't necessarily have an overwhelming busy life but I wish I took more time to sit by the fire, put my phone away and appreciate the down time to relax that I do have. Last night it was cold and windy out but it seemed like that was the last of what crossed my mind. In the past 2 years I've changed so much, in good ways and in ways that I can improve upon but I'm thankful for these mountains being my backyard and the opportunities I've gotten from making the decision to move here.
Time flies by and if we don't take the time to appreciate it now we'll be eighty years old looking back on the moments wishing we had more than just pictures or videos. I want more moments like quit nights by the fire or sitting on the parkway, or going out with friends and leaving my phone up and taking in the conversations. People will change and come and go in and out of our lives for either good or bad reasons but we should learn to appreciate the people we do have and focus on the positives rather than the negatives.
